Donate food and items

This page shows examples of useful donations and basic guidance before donating.

Most useful food

  • Tinned meals, vegetables, fruit and fish.
  • Pasta, rice, noodles and cooking sauces.
  • Cereal, long-life milk, tea and coffee.
  • Baby food and formula, where accepted by the provider.

Useful non-food items

  • Toiletries, period products and nappies.
  • Cleaning products and laundry tablets.
  • Warm clothing, socks and sleeping bags, if requested.
  • Reusable shopping bags for parcels.

Before you donate

  1. Check the provider's current needs before buying or collecting items.
  2. Only donate sealed items within their use-by date.
  3. Ask about delivery times so donations reach staff when they can receive them.
  4. Consider money donations where a provider needs flexibility or storage space is limited.

Businesses and food suppliers

Supermarkets, shops and food suppliers can support the network by sharing surplus food safely. In the original site, FareShare and Rethink Food are key distribution partners.
